Dr. Mauldin is the only board certified veterinary radiation oncologist providing radiation treatment planning in the entire New Jersey/New York City area. A full physics and technical staff completes our team.
The center allows all veterinarians access to advanced cross sectional imaging for their patients in an environment specifically designed for pets.
Our equipment includes and 1.5 Tesla GE Signa Advantage MRI with compatible pateint monitoring and anesthesia delivery equipment. We use Sevoflurane gas anesthesia for more rapid
recovery and reduced anesthetic complications for increased overall safety of your patients/pets.
A high resolution, rapid helical CT scanner is available for advanced imaging of the thorax, abdomen, and head/nasal area. Consultation with
a board-certified radiologist is available to assist in determining the imaging modality of choice and with final image interpretation.
After an initial consultation with a board-certified oncologist and acceptance for a course of radiation, the patient undergoes treatment planning. A Siemens linear accelerator with electron capability is used. Additionally, computer based 3-D treatment planning (utilizing CT images) and customized blocking with beam modifiers are employed to help maximize the dose to the tumor and minimize any radiation to normal surrounding tissues. Every effort is made to deliver the radiation with little or no sedation. General anesthesia is needed occasionally. Scheduling for radiation therapy must be done in conjunction with a veterinarian and a veterinary oncologist. Unlike many other advanced imaging centers, our intent is that the referring veterinarian continues to provide the primary care for our patients. We are here to provide an advanced extension of your veterinarian's treatment and diagnostic capabilites and we are commited to providing the finest quality of medicine in a warm, caring environment.
